APPROACH
The Msikaba Bridge project is sure to be a life-changing experience for many individuals in big and small ways. We aim to illustrate that visually by emphasizing the importance of community by painting our characters and their surroundings with a very raw and honest brushstroke whilst maintaining the cinematic integrity of the piece. This bridge represents a connection, two places coming together. We would like us to connect with people using the beautiful landscapes of our country and the promise of tomorrow by building on the notion of pride. Promises are easy to make, but people rest in the assurance that things are actually being done for the future and this project is such a project‐testament of a kept promise.
CAMERA LANGUAGE
The camera language is highly inspired by the idea of travel and the beginning of something. This is a journey and we going to take you on one. This is why our camera is constantly in motion and never really still unless its the moment when we see the bridge so that we can linger on those moments. This is going to be done by the use of drones and sliders. Even from the introduction of the characters we will introduce them with movement and carry this throughout without it being jarring.
EDIT & PACE
Our edit styles are influenced by the narrative, the idea of us connecting with the people and prioritizing their emotions and moments that the audience will relate to. We start the edit a bit on the slower side to introduce us to the world then speed up the pace as we get to their workspaces and then slow it down after that for the conclusion so it has a rhythmic pace to it that will combine well with the music too.
LIGHTING & GRADE
The idea for lighting is to go for an overall warm soft glow, I want to use the idea of flares from the sun to give us a sense of newness. Our character’s faces will be lit with even more care as we want to highlight their eyes and give them a spark that will speak to the audience. The grade is going to have a warmth to it from the natural light but I would also like to add some cooler contrast so that we have colour separation between characters and environment.
